Balance and Zone Concept
Balance and Zone concept
The concept of balance is something deeply rooted in our human experience. The most common example is the balance of being awake - active and being asleep - inactive. It even applies to human interactions. We intrinsically feel if an interaction with another person is balanced or out of balance. If something doesn’t feel fair and someone takes advantage of us, the relationship is out of balance. The same applies to a balanced diet, a balanced work schedule, etc. The question is where each individual's balance-sweet-spot is. That’s what ONVY is going to help you to find out.
What is balance?
There is an individual sweet spot, where long-term growth and fulfillment can happen. This spot lies in between too much and too little of something. We will give you some examples to make it clearer.
If you apply the balance concept to our ONVY Scores it can look like this:
Too little | Balance | Too much | |
---|---|---|---|
Stress | Boredom | Flow-State | Feeling of being overwhelmed |
Mindfulness | Clouded mind | Clear Thoughts | “Monk-Problem” (being so mindful, you are separated from reality) |
Activity | Degeneration of unused muscles, tendons, ligaments and bones. Decrease of cardiovascular fitness Increased pain Imbalances of musculature |
Ready for everyday challenges. Prevention of disease |
Overtaxing the system which leads to degeneration |
Recovery | Memories can’t be consolidated, worse learning; Body can’t detox; Can’t regenerate after training; less ready to take on new challenges |
Adequate rest. Supercompensation after stressful physiological of psychological activity Growth |
Wasting time. Symptom of a missing purpose to get up in the morning |
But you can also look at other parts of life in general:
Too little | Balance | Too much | |
---|---|---|---|
Food | Malnutrition, no energy, no muscle growth, stress, | Optimal nourishment Muscle growth Recovery |
Obesity |
Helping others | Selfish person No close friends |
Taking care of oneself to live ones own life and to be able to help others in the long term | Self-sacrificing Putting others first all the time Helper syndrome Exhausting oneself |
Work | No own income Dependent on others |
Fulfillment due to quality free time with family and friends, but also quality work |
No time for family, friends and hobbies |
You can choose almost any variable you like and you will always find a balance component. So how can ONVY help you to be more balanced?
Entering the Zone Concept
We developed the concept of “Zones” to guide you towards your balance. The zones tell you where your sweet spot is concerning each of our four pillars.
These zones are 100% personal and calculated daily based on your previously gathered data and the latest scientific findings.
So let’s say your last night's sleep was suboptimal and therefore you did not recover well. Your next day’s Activity Zone and Stress Zone will then be lower compared to a day with a good recovery the night before.
On the left side you see a good Recovery Score and on the right side a bad one.
Combining it all with the Balance Score
Now you know, that the zones give you guidance on what you should do concerning the four pillars.
To give you a top-level view with the question “Am I in balance in general?” we created the Balance Score, which tells you with one glance how well you hit your different zones. Remember the zones represent the balance between too much and too little. The better you hit your zones, the higher your Balance Score will be.
On the left side you see a good Balance Score because all zones were hit and on the right side a less optimal one.
